ST students at Upper Primary, Secondary level has highest number of dropout rate in JK

 

Srinagar, Feb 27 (KNO): Among all categories, Schedule Tribe (ST) students’ at Upper Primary and Secondary School Level have the highest number of dropout rate in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the official figures accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), among the four major categories including Schedule Caste (SC) and Schedule Tribe (ST), General and Other Backward Classes (OBC), the ST students at secondary school level has highest number of dropout rate with 14.17 percent.

This includes 19.05 percent among the girl students and 10.55 percent among the male students.

Similarly, the OBC students at this level have an overall dropout rate of 13.44 percent that includes 11.93 percent among the girl students and 14.80 percent among the male students.

Likewise, the SC students at secondary level have a total of 6.62 percent of dropout rate including 7.07 percent among the female students and 6.22 among the male students respectively.

The official figures further reveal that the lowest dropout rate at secondary school level was among the general category students.

It states that the general category at this stage has a total dropout rate of 4.08 percent that includes 4.17 percent among the girl students and 4.01 among the male students respectively.

However, according to the official figures, the highest dropout rate at Upper Primary Level was also recorded among the ST students followed by general category students.

At this stage, a total of 5.02 percent dropout rate was recorded among the ST students including 6.87 percent among the female students and 3.35 among the male students.

In the general category at this stage, a total of 3.01 percent dropout rate was witnessed that includes 2.70 percent of female and 3.29 percent male students respectively.

In the meantime, when contacted to Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Tassaduq Hussain Mir for his comments regarding the issue, he did not respond to any calls from this reporter—(KNO)
